Its been a long time since I reviewed an MI gadget. The last one was the Mi 10400mah Powerbank -
Next up is the Mi Wi-Fi Router Mini. Thanks to @helloansuman for sending me this gorgeous little beast from Orissa.
Let the games begin :D
The Mini Router comes inside a Mi siganture box. The text is in chinese as the product is not yet released for global customers.
There are 2 models of the Router - White and Black. Ansuman had sent me the white one.
Inside the box, the AC adapter, the manual(no use of it as the text is in chinese)
The important point to be noted for the users in India is that the Adapter plug is of the international variant. You need a connector.
At the backside, there are 5 slots and a button. The small black button is for Reset and a simcard remover pin or needle will be needed.
The next is the USB port to conect storage devices to your network. The next two are the LAN ports. The blue one is the WAN port which we will be using in this review. The last port is to connect the router to power source.
So once you power up the device, after few seconds , you can see the blue light which means the device is ready.
Connect the wire to the blue WAN port. Call your ISP and ask them open up the MAC address for your connection. It will take sometime depending upon the ISP. Mine is PPPoE connection.
Once the MAC is opened, switch on WiFi and search for connections in your laptop/phone. You will see 2 SSIDs : Xiaomi_xx & Xiaomi_xx_5G. The former is the 2.4Ghz and the latter is the 5Ghz connection. 5G will give you stable connection needed for heavy games. When you connect your device to one of these, a link will be automatically opened. Or else manually open - 192.168.31.1
This is IP address of the Mi Router from where you can configure all the settings.
In the first window, click the checkbox to accept the terms and conditions. Click the Begin bluebox. Then, you can enter the SSID and password for your connection. For PPPoE users, click on the text I have highlighted using red. It will ask for your username and password provided by ISP. Click on the Proceed blue box.
Done. Router is setup. Now refresh your device wifi. You will notice that the SSID has been changed from 'Xiaomi_xxxx' to the one you entered in the setup. Click on it. Enter the WiFi password. Bingo. Start browsing.
Now go to the same IP address. Enter your WiFi password.
The page is in chinese. But you can translate to English from Chrome. The Routing Status page shows the speed and the status of the connections.
When you click on Router Settings, you get 6 options :
1. Wifi settings
2. Internet settings
3. Security center
4. Lan setings
5. Advanced settings
6. System status
Under Wifi settings, you can change the SSID and password of both your 2.4G and 5G connection
Under Internet settings, you can change the details of your PPPoE connection or enter inputs for DHCP/Static IP.
Security center lets you change the password of your router. LAN settings are for knowing the DHCP and IP values. I haven't used the LAN facility. And Advanced settings are for users who would like to play around with their router.
Under System status, you can check the version of the router and can manually upgrade to the latest stable or developer version.
Typical Mi product as always. A beast. Quick startup. A terrific range(My friend who lives in the neighbouring building is able to access my WiFi). Stable 5G connection for heavy games.
Add to all this, the option to connect your phone or hard disk to the Router and use as network storage.
In this review, we used Chrome to set up the router. We can also use a PC client or Android app for phone to configure the router.

Unfortunately all these official softwares are in Chinese. But thanks to people like @magdag , we have the English patched versions in the forum.
