Throughout the year, Xiaomi has not only launched various Mi phones featured with breakthrough technologies, but also wowed the world with the Mi Ecosystem products. The 6.4-inch bezel-less display Mi MIX has certainly attracted attention both from the tech media and users ever since it was launched. That is definitely how the future smartphone should look like, isn't it?

1. January: Xiaomi New Year Gala: Plan for the Year 2016 Revealed!

At the beginning of 2016, Xiaomi held the New Year Gala where Xiaomi employees had lots of fun from morning to evening! Mi Fans and Xiaomi's employees are equally important assets for Xiaomi, they are the ones who build up the bridge and link an unique relationship between Mi Fans and Xiaomi. THe event was held before Chinese New Year's Day, which is an occasion for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner.

3. March: Xiaomi Introduces New Branding for Mi Ecosystem: Mijia
Xiaomi is upgrading the branding of Mi Eco-system. So a new brand for Mi Eco-system is launched at this moment. MIJIA as it is, it literally means Xiaomi Smart Home. The logo looks like a shield. Yes, it is as reliable as a shield.

5. May: MIUI 8 Launch Event: MIUI Has Got 200 Million Active Users Worldwide!

Xiaomi introduced the new MIUI 8 in May. 6. June: Microsoft and Xiaomi Expand Partnership to Bring Productivity Services to Millions of Devices and Customers
On May 31st, 2016, the two companies announced the patent cross-licensing agreement. Xiaomi will also start shipping Skype and Microsoft Office in the company's Android tablets and smartphones. Xiaomi has a strong presence in countries such as China and India. Xiaomi customers in these countries will soon enjoy selecting Microsoft software on their mobile devices.
7. July: Xiaomi Has Sold over 110 Million Redmi Devices
Based on the data concluded in June 2016, Xiaomi proudly reveals and announces that more than 110 million Redmi phones, in other words, 1.21 smartphone units on an average are sold per second! That’s an amazing figure considering the first Redmi phone was launched back in July, 2013. In fact, the Redmi series is Xiaomi's most popular brand when it comes to units that have been sold.
8. September: Ultra Light Full HD Mi Notebook Air Launched!
"When will Xiaomi come out with a laptop?” Well, in September, Xiaomi launched the Mi Notebook Air, Xiaomi’s first-ever laptop; an ultra-thin, ultra-light, all-metal beauty packed with Xiaomi-style innovations. It comes in two flavors: a 13.3” ultralight notebook with a dedicated high-performance graphics card, and a compact, magazine-sized 12.5” lightweight workhorse with an incredible battery life of 11.5 hours.

10. September: Xiaomi Mi 5s: World's First 'Under Glass' Fingerprint Scanner Device
Xiaomi has launched its Mi Pay NFC-based mobile payment service in China in collaboration with bankcard association China UnionPay. It does support debit and credit cards from a total of 20 banks, as well as public transportation cards from six cities across the country.
Xiaomi Mi 5s is first smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon Sense ID fingerprint sensor under glass. Xiaomi’s Mi 5s is the first commercial smartphone with a biometric fingerprint sensor under glass. Ultrasonic waves pass through the cover glass, supporting a sleeker device design; there is no need to cut a separate hole in the cover glass, as with capacitive-based alternatives.
11. September: Ultra Thin Mi TV 3s Comes with Built-in Deep Learning AI System
Mi TV 3s, a super-sleek, ultra-smart 65” 4K TV and Xiaomi's first Mi TV with a built-in deep learning AI system, developed entirely in-house by Xiaomi’s R&D team.You’re going to want to stay home with this one a lot as it has deep learning AI system intelligently classifies content and learns from your preferences over time, resulting in deeply personalized recommendations for effortless content discovery.
12. October: Xiaomi Brings Mi Box, a 4K Android TV-powered Set-top Box, to the US
With Xiaomi's commitment to bringing innovation to everyone, the $69 price tag of Mi Box is set to disrupt the U.S. market for products that deliver a richer television experience. Mi Box offers 4K support at 60 frames per second, supports the latest HDR10 standard, Google voice search and Google Cast.
13. October: A Letter from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on Mi India’s Latest Milestone— 1 MILLION Smartphones Sold in Only 18 Days
During Diwali the festive season in India, various big sales have been ON on mi.com. And big news is that Xiaomi has sold over 1 million smartphones within the first 18 days in October! What a brilliant record!
14. October: Mi Note 2: The First Two-sided Dual Curved Mi Device
When Xiaomi launched the first Mi Note in 2015, it revolutionized the smartphone design with its unprecedented use of 3D curved glass. In October, Mi Note 2 was lauched, double-curved, with a flexible OLED display, and more innovative tricks up its 3D curved glass (front and back). It comes with a 22.56MP (5488 x 4112) super high-res camera, an 8MP autofocus front shooter with Beautify 3.0, and hardware-level Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) for steady 4K video shooting. It is also Xiaomi's first smartphone to be equipped with 37 global bands, making Mi Note 2 LTE-ready wherever you are.
15. October: Mi MIX: The Edgeless Design and Full Ceramic Body Mi Concept Phone
Every geek has that fantasy of the “ultimate smartphone” in their heads and today Xiaomi just unveils the smartphone of our dreams: Mi MIX, Xiaomi’s concept phone, an imagination of the smartphone of the future built with only the best of today’s technology, designed jointly with Philippe Starck.
It is the first smartphone with an edgeless design, and a 6.4” 17:9 custom display with an incredible 91.3% screen-to-body ratio—the highest on any smartphone in the world. In order to achieve this, Xiaomi completely overhauled the earpiece speaker, proximity sensor, and front camera with next-gen tech (don’t worry, the headphone jack is intact for now.
16. November: [Double 11] Mi Singles Day on Tmall:￥1.295 Billion, Top Seller for 4 Years!
At Xiaomi, it is the Singles' Day tradition to break records and top last year's figures, which includes:
- RMB 1.295 billion in total sales
- 1 million Redmi 4A sold on its first day of sale
- # 1 top selling smartphone (Redmi 4A)
- # 1 in Tmall sales for 4 straight years
- # 1 best seller in 12 different product categories (laptops, smart home devices, wearables, drones)
17. December: Xiaomi Crossed $1 Billion in Revenue in India During 2016
2016 is amazing because Xiaomi has the greatest Mi fans in the world showering Mi with love <3 and support to bring it this far as Xiaomi has crossed a revenue of US$ 1 Billion in the year 2016! Within two years of setting up in India, Xiaomi has done what other companies have not done before!
18. December: Xiaomi's Mi Ecosystem Total Sales Reach More Than ￥15 Billion
Xiaomi has invested in 77 companies to build the Mi Ecosystem to date, and incubated them from day one. Xiaomi has managed to scale this model, which makes it the world’s most successful hardware incubator. Xiaomi has crossed the mark of 50 million devices connected to our Internet of Things!
19. December: Xiaomi Hits More Than 50 Physical Stores in China
Xiaomi set to change in the near future as they are now planning to set up physical stores located in major cities. As Xiaomi matures as a company, and as the Xiaomi branding has grown to become a household name in China, we recognized a fantastic opportunity to start expanding our Mi Home outlets. We are therefore converting these Mi Home outlets into retail stores, and we will be opening more Mi Home stores in the future.
20. December: Xiaomi-backed Online Bank to Launch Services Soon
The new bank will be called Sichuan XW Bank and plans to start offering services in the near future. Xiaomi will own around 30% of the new bank.
