Just Recently, we got to know that cyanogenmod is dead and Lineage OS will take the place of it.
Requisecat in Pace Cyanogenmod
All the nightlies and development will be discontinued from 31st Dec 2016.
On 30 Dec 2016 soon after the announcement was made, a developer released the first build of lineage OS for kenzo i.e. Redmi Note 3 SD and gave us a
Happy New Year Surprise!
Let's take a look into the ROM. Tighten your seat belts Ladies and Gentlemen.
Here we go!
The ROM is based on Android 7.1.1
There is not much difference from CM only boot screen has changed from cyanogenmod to android written in silver on black background.
The ROM has very less bugs and performs great. There's a bug which i noticed in the flashlight. It does not turns on in first attempt it turns on in second or third. It can record 4K videos too. Both and Goodix and FPC fingerprints are working.
Camera app is still much buggy and fc.
Vulkan API is supported.
Kenzo & Kate both are supported. Just flash kate radio files if flashing on kate.
Flash the kate radio files if you are flashing on kate and kenzo radio files if flashing on kenzo. Flash if you don't want to face SIM detection issue.
You can find the firmware here
You need an unlocked bootloader and TWRP flashed.
Flash the firmware first and then the ROM and Gapps.
Download the ROM from here (Both goodix and FPC fingerprint are supported, Download the goodix one if you have goodix) and Gapps arm64 android 7.1.1 and variant according to your choice from here.
I flashed the ROM with Nano Gapps.
The Setup is same as any cyanogenmod build, choose the language, Wi-Fi, Google Account, Pin/Pattern/Password and Fingerprint but here we get another option to enable or disable the Pattern Required to open after every reboot.
User Interface, RAM Management & Start-Up Apps
User Interface is clean, elegant and simple to use. The same trebuchet launcher, Stock apps and bloat-free UI.
RAM Management is great. 844 MB out of 2.8GB RAM (Available) was used at the startup. I experienced no lag.
We can even see the memory used by the apps.
In RAM Info we have an option to seee the apps which start when mobile boots up. We can stop the app from booting at the start.
At the top, we can see some suggestions provided by the ROM like Add the Google Voice, Turn on the Cellular data, Adding the Pattern (If not added), Enabling Mobile data, etc.
The ROM is Pre-Rooted. We can find the Root Option in Developer Settings (Tap Build Number 8 times to enable it).
Battery! What should i say about it?
Battery on it is pretty good.
From 100% to 13%, i managed to get around 6 hrs of SOT and around 1 and a half day battery backup. I was on Mobile Data all the time. In the morning, when i woke up i saw my phone was power off. At night it automatically powered off. You can see the gap in the battery graph.
The Camera is capable of recording 4K videos and we have various options to adjust the exposure and lightning effects (Bright Screen or Screen Flash). We can even adjust the picture size, Saturation, Contrast and much more.
We can even capture panorama.
Camera app is much buggy and stops responding at times or if using it for longer.
I used the antutu benchmark to test the benchmarking. It captured almost 85819 score on Lineage OS whereas it captured 74323 score on MIUI. Lineage OS can give more performance than MIUI.
P.S:- I had flashed the Radon Kernel where we get options for customising (i did not did any i choose stock only). The score might differ if you did any customisations with it).
Getting the Lineage OS this early is great. Being Unofficial, it was at the stage of becoming Stable. Just fixing some minor bugs like the flashlight and voLTE bug (discussed at the start) can make it a really awesome ROM.
Only 1.3 GB was used out 2.8 GB and rest is free to be used by the apps.
The ROM can be used as a daily driver. I am using it from 2 days.
Here, i am enclosing a video of it!
minz1 for providing the ROM (XDA thread)
Thanks @cherri94 and @CLAYTON_WWC
Hope you liked the thread.
Please take the poll below.
Will you flash Lineage OS?
And Wish you A Happy New Year!
