Recently, CM 14 was released for Redmi Note 3 SD and just few days ago the new CM 14.1 was released based on Google's Android 7.1.I flashed the CM 14.1 by Santosh on my Redmi Note 3 SD (kenzo) with arm64 mini gapps and here comes
My Review of CM 14.1 on Redmi Note 3 SD.
What works ?
What doesn't ?
- Other basic things
- Shows the voLTE option to turn on/off in Settings but for some reason it didn't worked for me
- CM related features or anything that's out of my scope and in CM scope
- Goodix fingerprint should not be working ( not tested yet )
- Stuff that i might have not noticed
- Video Recording
- Hotspot can't be joined.
- Only SIM 1 was recognised by the device and SIM 2 Slot was shown empty in settings but the SIM was there.
Download the ROM from here and download gapps from here.
Choose arm64, Android 7.1 and variant according to your choice.
After booting up, we have various languages to choose. Then just like various cyanogenmod versions Select the Wi-Fi, Sign-in with the Google Account various backup options, Security selection, etc.
The fingerprint and pattern adding screen has got slightly new materialastic design.
You may see com.android.phone fixed crashing dialog box appearing but ignore it by clicking on Close app.
The new CM 14.1 ROM has new compact and materialastic icons and give a premium look. The ROM is smooth and has very less lag. I am using the Google Now Launcher as default. The Contact app's icon has got a new look.
Rest of the apps are same as we get to see on the previous builds.
At the top, we can see some suggestions provided by the ROM like Add the Google Voice, Turn on the Cellular data, Adding the Pattern (If not added).
But here is a new addition to it that is
Currently 3rd Party apps aren't supported but Force Touch on Stock Apps works like a charm without any lag.
Battery on Cm 14.1 is good. It gives nice battery backup.
I haven't used it for a full Battery Cycle.
I must say it gives a good battery backup on standby.
I put it on the Standby at 55% and after about 5-6 hours, the battery dropped to 53% and it was showing 3 days stand-by battery backup which is in my opinon great!
Camera has got a full customization. We can select the resolution of the images captured by the back camera and the front camera as well. We can also select the Video resolution and change the save location. It gives a perfect shot in low light as well as at night.
Unfortunately, it does not support 4K Recording. Also, i was not able to record the video.
Upon selecting the video, it shows Can't Connect to Camera.
Some shots I captured using camera
Getting CM 14.1 this much early is Awesome. Despite of some things not working the ROM is great and provides more features than any other cyanogenmod build e.g. Force Touch. Unfortunately, we can't record the videos and people can't connect to our hotspot.
Also, There needs improvements in the Force Touch because upon pressing on the app, the apps functions are available but we can't slide to them we have to lift our finger up and then again select the option.
If we try to slide it take us to create a shortcut on the homescreen. Moreover, Very few Stock apps can be used by force touch and none of the 3rd party apps.
Here i am enclosing a video of CM 14.1 on Redmi Note 3 SD!
Hope you liked the thread.
Please take the poll below.
Will you flash CM 14.1?
