Main UI: It's more than just simple & flat
The very first impression towards the main UI is definitely simpler & flater. Hong feng(co-founder) said that "MIUI 6 has ripped down all the decorative design". At one look, it may very much seem like is just a redesign UI but xiaomi had done mroe than just enhancing visually but also funtionality. Eg, the round circle unlock style on previous MIUI is no longer there and substitute with a simple swipe up gesture to unlock the phone. You can also go into camera from lockscreen by swiping to the left.
There used to be a whole stretch of notification icons in the status bar, MIUI 6 simplify it by showing the '3 dot' icon only then give user a more detail push notification in the pulled-down notification panel.
In addition to the visual effects and flater interface, MIUI 6 had also add in a more interactive multitasking experience for the users by adding the 'card-slot' multitask system tray which will also helps in navigation. You can still opt for the previous UI by simply pinching in or out.
I personally like the new clock/alarm design which is very clean and refreshing. The clock will have a 'boucing' animation when you touch on it.
By long-pressing the power button will open up to the reboot, airplane mode and such options.
If you activate the airplane mode from here, you will be able to see the plane taking-off indication the activation. (sweet)
Uninstalling an app also become kinda fun when you are able to see the app icon being 'disperse'.
New enhanced & considerate features
MIUI 6 new UI is not the only thing to be excited about, it had also added new features to existing function to enhance the users' experience.
Eg, in the stock camera app. Swipe-down will flip to the front camera, swipe-right for the setting and swie-left for the stock filters.
There are also new feature in the apps moving part. You can pinch the screen to go into the widget and others function. From there you can move any numbers of apps around easily with only few swipes.
Others than that, the compass are also quite interesting. By placing it flat horizontally or facing up, it will shows th bearing and direction.
Furthermore, there is a new function to detect whether an object is place correctly or not. (useful when you are placing photo frame on wall and such)
MIUI 6 Enhanced Experience: New lifestyle services apps
(Unfortunately this is only open for China only currently, hopefully the service can extend to other countries too)
The "Xiaomi Lifestyle" and yellow pages app is actually very powerful. It is aim to assist consumer in their everydays lifestyle.
Users actually will be able to pay their phone bill, book hotel, buy train ticket, call for delivery and alot more interesting functions via the yellow page app while the "xiaomi lifestyle" is a kind of bulk-purchase service app(like groupon/mydeal).
Overall, we are excited to see that Xiaomi is taking the users' opinion and experiece into developing MIUI 6.
And ofcourse the rom is still very buggy at this stage but this is why we are beta-testing it and hopefully will be able to improve MIUI 6 more before the public launch.
For those who want to join us on the beta test, you still have a shot. Apply at the link below please.
