[Q & A] How to stop MIUI from force closing selected apps running in background?

Whenever an app is removed from the multitasking tray, MIUI force closes it in the background. I really appreciate this feature and it's one of the many things I love about MIUI. But some apps need to be running in the background to work properly like clock widget apps or instant messengers like Kik or WhatsApp to notify properly. So, is there any way I can keep selected apps running in the background?

Please notice, I need selected apps to run in the background. (I know a way, but that enables all apps to run in the background.)

Just try to reproduce your problem. so try download kik messenger.

First, i open kik messenger and then check on running apps. yes, kik was there. then try to clear the recent app from the tray and kik messenger was gone.

Second, i go to security and then permission and add kik messenger to allow auto start.
try again to open kik messenger and then clear the recent app. and check again running app. it's still there.
I assume this way should be work. hope u can cross check again. because i never use kik.

How about swipe down the app you want and lock it in the multi-task tray?

It looks disgusting to keep a clock widget app locked in the tray like that for 24 hours a day.
And I've so many IM apps. If I keep them like this all day, they'll cluster the tray.

You are saying when you clear all the apps from the task-bar you few apps running on background crashes? That issue doesn't happens to me and i clear the RAM most of the time.

Have you restored all the apps from your old phone or backup? If that so then re-install apps which are giving errors from Playstore. I prefer you install all the apps but 1st try those app giving issues.

I don't think that apps like Whatsapp, QQi, Viber, or widgets etc. are force closed.

I strongly believe that they must be working in the background, because otherwise, I would stop receiving messages on those apps, which has never been the case till now.

I would suggest that you install an app called Autorun Manager, which allows you to check which apps auto-start and also which apps are running on your device at any given time. You will see that, if you close the apps from task manager, their running status does not change in the Autorun Manager.

Please try it and let us know how it goes. Thanks!

That is exactly the case. Right now I am using Kik messenger on my phone. And it does not notify me of new messages. It shows me the new messages only when I open the app manually.

(It does alert me when the app is there in the multi tasking tray, but it doesn't notify when its not on the tray.)

And I'll download that app, but I did check it from Settings>apps>running. When I open Kik and its in the tray, the 'running apps' list shows kik. But as soon as I remove Kik from the tray, it gets removed from 'running apps' as well. So I assume that means, MIUI force closes any app as soon as you remove it from the tray.

I'll still download that app and let you know.

It doesn't crash. MIUI force closes it.

I got your point.
Whether you clean the RAM or swipe up the each application to remove from task/app manager. Apps will close and any chat window who have opened will be closed and that app will start from the beginning.

But...

I tried typing some text on few apps but didn't send it. Then i closed all the apps once with swiping method and then RAM clearing method. I found that some app like Whatsapp/Messaging will still keep your unsent data but other app like QQi/Hike will clear your unsent text.

So i think some things should be taken care by the developer of these respective apps.

Also i just tried with Samsung phone using Stock ROM and they do that poorly. They even cleared un-sent text from whatsapp and messaging just by using swipe close from recent opened window/manager.

But this does not happen with my friends... they get notified as soon as the msg is sent to them (on kik)...

And my problem is just not with Kik... there are other apps too which need to be running in the background for working properly. like clock widgets or more importantly Google Now. I enabled the 'voice search from any screen' option and then observed that if the app is removed from the tray, it stops working.

Isn't there anything that can be done to stop these apps from being closed in the background?
