Hi,

I came across a news report and also there are increasingly more discussion going on in the internet about the data collection done by Xiaomi devices .  Xiaomi devices collecting user's data which includes Text,Photos, files stored on the devices etc... and sending it to an government owned IP address in china. Following are the few reports that mentioned this issue.

1. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Report-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-sends-photos-and-texts-to-Chinese-server_id58744
2. http://blog.gsmarena.com/xiaomi-secretly-sending-info-chinese-servers/
3. http://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/xiaomi-phones-covertly-send-user-data-to-china-report-23433.html/page14.

5. http://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/xiaomi-phones-covertly-send-user-data-to-china-report-23433.html
6. https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-comment-on-xiaomi-sending-user-data-to-chinese-government.72376/

Can anybody from Xiaomi please comment on this.
I thought of Buying an Mi4 when it is released in India...but now I am thinking!!!

Regards,
Sivabalan K

Now I know why their phone prices are lesser. I was thinking of buying this phone. Now I am skeptica ...

Seriously Guys...Dnt believe on rumours ....If you remember these websites predicted Xiaomi's price 25,000 INR !
And those rumours were wildly spread...!
wait for official confirmation....and these articles are written now...when xiaomi has made strong entry in Indian Markets...why not before?
I work in Symantec...same rumour was spread in market about Symantec antivirus ...I'm the developer and I knew what is right and what is wrong ...!Corporate wars also matters ....
Xiaomi has less price...bcoz Xiaomi dnt do ads,dey dnt ask celebrities to endorse their brands...even a small ad on TV can hike the price of Mi 3 from 13,999 INR to 15,999INR !
less specs smartphone are offered at more than 26K INR compared to Mi 3...bcoz they endorse their brand by media and celebrities !

Some people trying to put wrong allegations of xiaomi...I responded you guyz with detailed reply.. ...

Maybe because your answers lack of technical explanations...
I'm a simple Miui user (and also a fan by the way) and I just want to know why my phone is sending data every 5 minutes to a Chinese server, without even being logged in to my Xiaomi account...
We just won't be satisfied by a vague "that's just statistical data!". Do you understand?

if they want user data they must ask the users before taking the datas. Yes google, sony, nokia takes the user datas with their users permission. Without the permission taking users data is illegal.

There is nothing wrong to be skeptical. And also they are some respectable websites which have published this news. As SivBal said let them clarify this immediately before this supposedly bad publicity goes out of hand

I believe the author of the test had disabled only the Mi Cloud service, but NOT the cloud Messaging service.
That's why the source application is being detected as "Messaging" application.

I'm not sure about why the detected IP does NOT belongs to Xiaomi though.

Either xiaomi should admit this has a bug (even how a bug could do this?).
or Should clarify what is it doing with a server does not belongs to "Xiaomi"

Thanks,
Anand

Hi all,

I am not sure how to react now after having my MI3 a week back. Even Mi3 is showing the same behaviour as REDMi Note in the news. Download OS monitor application and check the TCP connections towards chinese servers.

I disabled all the cloud config, XIOMI user experience backup in security tab and all backups and even deleted the MI account. If I send an SMS from another phone to Mi3 phone, the messaging process connects to an IP address 58.68.235.56:80 (a server in china).. There are also TCP connections from Music application and also another process named XIOMI service framework. I know there are lot of connections to google servers, but this looks pretty scary as the messaging application starts a connection as soon as it receives an SMS.

Unless the developers come with a proper answer, I am scared even to switch on the WIFI. The developers should come up with an answer on what they are sending to where and why... And how to disable them...

Please be aware of this before you go for next flash sale for MI3..

Waiting for an answer ASAP...
