Fellow MIUIers, |
Apple just announced their new iOS 10 mobile platform not long ago, and with Apple being the leader of the global smartphone market, any action of theirs will be certain to draw the attention of the masses. However, the iOS 10 launch that introduced so many firsts of iOS, was not much of revolutionary changes, but rather just porting over existing Android features. It's not even too daring to say, Android is already years ahead of iOS. Each and every mobile phone company out there contributed some sort of idea that will then be picked up by other companies and innovate a version of their own. MIUI, being a software-based idea that started Mi itself, has its share of many industrial-firsts. Here's 10 of them.
1. Smart Message Recognition
Last year, MIUI introduced a new smart recognition system into Messages. Users are given an easier pathway to organising information from their messages, from providing a portal for mobile top-up and quickly tracking shipments to allowing easy copying of verification codes. Do more with less time.
Currently works only in MIUI China with Chinese texts
2. Smart Call Reminder
It's not uncommon that we're in the process of playing a game or watching a video, that someone just decides to break you away from your current task by calling you up. With MIUI, you'll just be seeing a call notification up top whenever you're in a fullscreen task, notifying you of incoming calls without disrupting your workflow.
3. Fraud Call Detection
MIUI was the first to introduce a system-based call location display feature (iOS is late by 6 years!), and proceeded to add in features such as service hotline recognitions as well as fraud call detections. Based on caller number, the system is capable of recognising its source or even the caller's identity! Users no longer has to face insecurities of receiving fraud calls. MIUI 8 is bound to receive a new addition: Recognition of fake messages sent from malicious sites.
4. Workday Alarms
During holidays and weekends, workers will be wanting a good rest, however mobile alarms are always triggered during working hours to wake the users' up. MIUI introduced the world's first workday alarm which intelligently skips ringing on weekends or holidays.
5. Calendar Subscriptions
With UEFA Euro Cup 2016 on-going, football fans (or "soccer" for Americans) will definitely want to keep updated with the timetable of matches so they'll know when they have to ring their supervisors and report sick. Besides, calendar subscriptions allow users to stay updated with the future events of their interest.
Currently works only in MIUI China ROMs with Chinese language selected
6. Do-Not-Disturb in Recorder
Since March 2013, MIUI introduced a DND feature in Recorder and immediately become the saviour of reporters and frequent users of recorders as they no longer have to face the trouble of receiving calls while in an interview. The recorder can even run until the battery is completely depleted as it continuously saves while recording. Since MIUI 8, the Recorder now gains a feature to transcribe the recording into text which can be exported in the form of .txt.
7. Compass Liveview Mode
Compass is not used by many, but still remains a necessity to the general public (especially those with poor sense of direction). What's better than a compass? A compass with a liveview of wherever your phone camera is pointed to! You can now be sure of the direction you should be heading without having to bring out your phone frequently to check.
8. Homescreen Management
After long-term usage of phones, we're sure to be facing homescreens full of applications and for the OCDs, organisation will be a behemoth of a project to complete. MIUI with its icon basket function allows for an easier way to get the job done as users can move applications in groups, even when moving across homescreens.
9. Autostart Management
Battery saving is the most sought after capability by manufacturers. MIUI introduced the autostart management three years ago, introducing the world to a highly customisable platform in which users are capable to choosing which applications will be running in background without users opening it. MIUI 8 added in another feature which allows users to control whether a particular application can be activated by another application, achieving true customisability for longer battery life.
10. Mi Band Payment Authentication
Since the introduction of the first Mi Band in 2014, MIUI integrated the feature of unlocking one's phone without having to type in the passwords as well as the capability to authenticate payments with users' own Mi Bands. Say bye-bye to lengthy passwords, complicated patterns and troublesome pin codes!
Since its creation 6 years ago, MIUI has accumulated many world's-first that became the template for other companies. With the launch of MIUI 8, more features are promised to be added into the living system which might end up being sources of innnovation of rival companies. MIUI is still proclaimed the best custom Android in China as it provides a rich Android experience full of features and its constant communication with users to obtain the data necessary for development.
