I want to decrease LCD density on my Redmi Note 3 Pro to utilize screen space more efficient. Default icons and fonts are too big for me, want to make them smaller.

Tried to set 350 DPI using either Resoluton Changer or "ro.sf.lcd_density" in build.prop but both ways bring some display problems.

After enabling Resolution Changer, screen looks as follows:

dpi350_app.gif

So icon names displayed too far from the icons, near to adjacent icons on the bottom.

After build.prop editing, icon labels are displayed normally:

dpi350_build_1.gif

but free screen space cannot be utilized (for example, I cannot place an icon above the third row, under the clock) and "Calendar" and "Weather" icons disappear:

dpi350_build_2.gif

Both icons appear only on 380 DPI but I want to use DPI no more than 350.

Is there a way to safely squeeze all the display on a rooted phone?

350 dpi  i think is to low for the device , for me 420 is ok but at this time am using exposed with a module name  plak  http://repo.xposed.info/module/hello.dcsms.plak and you can do a lot of thinks .
Also see the module miui tweaks  ....of curse you need to have exposed installed .

Thank you for the suggestion. Just tried Xposed & PLAK but cannot get rid of icon display problems. If density is less than 380, some icons are still not shown. Additionally, Photos icon always overlap its neighbors.

BTW, Calendar, Clock and some other icons are invisible in any app:

Found that standard Android Activity Manager (am) command (http://developer.android.com/tools/help/shell.html#am) supports display-size and display-density parameters, they work on my old Zopo C2 with Android 4.2.1. But in MIUI 7 (and maybe other versions too), am does not support these commands.

I think the problem in miui itself, all other than default DPI cause some problems in graphics.

I think the problem in miui itself, all other than default DPI cause some problems in graphics.

It may be part of MIUI yes but lowering default DPI doesn't really cause graphics problems.
The default in MIUI is way to high and things are to big.

I'm running 380 now without a problem and it looks much better. I do however use Nova launcher and have since day one.

To change DPI without root: "adb shell wm density NNN && adb reboot" where N is the DPI
