Xiaomi fans in India, here is something to look forward to. The Chinese smartphone market leader is going to unveil a new smartphone on June 7.

The company has tweeted about the launch of a selfie-centric smartphone at an event to be held in New Delhi.

Last year, the company launched a selfie-centric series of smartphones, called Y series, in India. The series consists of Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite and it is being expected that the Xiaomi is bring its successors in the country now.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer that has been crowned as the Indian smartphone market leader for two successive quarters, last launched the Redmi 5 India back in March. Various handset makers such as Oppo and Asus are trying to take on the company's Redmi note 5  prosmartphone, by offering handsets with powerful specs and at super competitive prices. Amid all the competition, it will be interesting to see what Xiaomi has to offer to retain its customers in the sub-Rs 15,000 bracket.

Last week, Xiaomi launched Redmi S2 in China, which is rumoured to be the handset that the company is planning to launch in India as the Redmi Y2. The device is placed below that of Redmi Note 5 and also marked the debut of the company’s Redmi ‘S’ series.

In terms of specs, sports a 5.9-inch HD+ (1440x720 pixels) resolution screen. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and comes in two storage versions -- 3GB RAM+32GB storage version and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version.

The Redmi S2 runs MIUI 9 based on Android OS and has two shooters at the back that includes a 12MP sensor and a 5MP sensor. At the front there is a 16MP sensor along with some AI-based features to enhance the shots. The smartphone is backed by a 3080mAh battery.
