How To Create Custom Font (.MTZ) For MIUI

Stuff Needed

- Font (must be .ttf format). If .otf format, need to use online converter to change it to .ttf format.
- Winrar/Any Extracting Utility
- notepad or any text editor. (I use Notepad++)
- MIUI Font Premade folder ( Download : MIUI-Font.zip (656 Bytes, Downloads: 11935)

1. Font Rename

As i notice, in MIUI got 3 different variations fonts; regular, light, and bold. Also, your downloaded font come in different variations, if it doesnt, ignore it. Most common in MIUI they used regular type.

Info : You computer need to show the full file extension.  So, you need to turn it on.

This is full list for type of font been using for MIUI.

So, for this tutorial, i will using Waltograph font (http://www.dafont.com/walt-disney.font) and for this font, its only have 2 type of font which is Regular and Bold. So, now I need to rename them accordingly for MIUI to understand them. I only intend on using the regular and the bold versions, so what I will do is rename "Waltograph-Bold.ttf" as "Roboto-Bold.ttf". I will then rename "Waltograph-Regular.ttf" as "Roboto-Regular.ttf". This means my finished product will tell MIUI to use Waltograph-Bold anywhere that Roboto-Bold is called for, and it will use Waltograph-Regular anywhere that Roboto-Regular is called for.

2. Create The Folder

Alright, now remember that zip I had you download before? The MIUI-Font.zip. Extract that somewhere on your desktop, so that we can see the files inside it, so that this is what we see.

Now, open up the "fonts" folder and paste in your renamed fonts inside that folder.

Now, let's go up one folder, where we see the "description.xml" file. Open it up with Notepad (don't just double click it, by default .xml files will open up with Internet Explorer). I'm using NotePad++, which is why the colors look different. You don't need to download NotePad++, notepad will do the job just fine. When you open it up, this is what we see:

This is the file that tells MIUI what the theme package is for, and allows for you to easily use it from the theme manager. Fill in the names as shown (but be careful not to delete anything). So, please make sure <![CDATA[TEXT]]> has been write correctly.

Once you've finished, hit Ctrl-S to save it, and close your text editor. Now before we continue, you will notice there is a "preview" folder, that is how people create the "theme preview" images that you see when browsing through your themes on your phone. For the purposes of this process, I'm not going to document how to use that. So let's ignore that for now.

3. Create MTZ Format

Highlight all the files as shown, and right click on them so that we can create our archive. Im using WinRAR for this tutorial.

When the window pops up, select "ZIP" instead of RAR, and make sure the Compression level is set to "Store". Any compression will corrupt the font mtz:

Now, once we've created the archive, we need to rename it as an .mtz. Right click on it, and click "Rename". Delete the ".zip" part, and make it ".mtz", so that it looks like the screenshot below.

Press Enter. This warning will come up, saying that changing the file extension may render the file useless. Simply press "Yes".

Awesome, now that we have our MTZ, then we need to transfer to our phone then install.

Nice tutorial bro, easier than use mi theme creator.
Btw, i've done with my font but after installing it does not have preview image on my device (Redmi Note 3G, MIUI 6). Would be great if you can add trick to display it. :)
