Welcome MIUI fans,
How many times do you go to the supermarket and when you have to pay, you don't find money or the credit/debit card in your pockets?
Thanks to the mobile payment systems, events like that should become less frequent. Smartphones can do a lot of things, and now tan could be used for paying in shops too.
But what exactly mobile payment is? It is simply a service made using mobile devices that allow payments. It can be sustained by a mobile wallet from companies like PayPal or Google (which requires a credit card or another payment method) or directly through a credit card and an application installed. It should reach a revenue share up to 9% by 2018. The Near Field Communication (NFC) is on the basis of services for physical stores: just bring the two electronic devices (one of them is in general the smartphone) within 4 cm and the contactless payment will happen. Even other methods are available: QR code, Cloud based mobile payment (used by PayPal), Bank transfer systems, etc.
Google launched its own system for Android, based right on the NFC: it is Android Pay and is the successor of Google Wallet; released at Google I/O 2015, is now available in about ten countries. It's equipped with a tow-factor authentication system and can use the fingerprint ID eventually presents in the devices.
What about Xiaomi? The company announced Mi Pay last year: it supports credit/debit cards and can be used as bus or subway card. The system is based on NFC feature and at the moment is available only in China.
These feature could obviously simplify daily actions, but maybe some concerns could come with it. First you could lose the direct contact with your money (bad or positive aspect?) and, over all, there is the risk of hackers: according to some, the technologies used for mobile payments could be vulnerable then sum up with possible human errors and bad behaviours like using public WiFi for these things.
Have you ever used mobile payment systems? Do you feel comfortable with them?
Do you think they will be the future?
