Hello!
Welcome back to another chapter of "TECH DISCOVERY"
About TECH DISCOVERY In this series, we create some posts on technological stuff and apart from that we would like to take your suggestions, idea and reviews about any topic (bounded by tech). We hope you would like this new concept of technical talk show.
Let's Start!
Now we are having top class displays in our phones and can't enjoy the clarity fully! For that, we should not use screen protectors in our screen for a smooth touch and clear vision. But it's not going to happen in reality, we can't live without protection. If that, you will end up with painful & irreversible scratches in no time. Toughened or tempered glass is the real thing which keeps our phones mostly shock free! 2 most popular protection series are Gorilla from Corning and Dragontrail. While Gorilla is most popular and solid among users. 1/3 of premium phones use this protection for the safety of displays! But what if Gorilla fails to safe you display? A new technology of diamond glass on display will be able to fix that soon! Akhan semiconductors are working on “Mirage Diamond Glass” and will soon let major smartphone vendors to use this on their phones. The glass won’t be made of real diamonds. It's artificial diamonds, that are made of methane and that can conduct electricity. Methane’s abundance helps with keeping costs down.
By this tech, depositing of artificial diamond crystal coating will be done on Gorilla Glass or perhaps unstrengthened glass to make them 6 times stronger and 10 times harder. This diamond crystal coating may also resist water. It will also resist heat up to 800x better which should make your phone ideal to use in VR and AR headsets. In fact, the diamond glass will be cleaner, stronger, and harder than anything that you have used before (which also includes Corning Gorilla and Saphire Glasses).Comparing to Saphire Glass, Nano-crystalline diamond is less brittle than sapphire crystal, it can be more flexible.
Of course, the new glass technology will be more expensive than an ion-strengthened glass. And since it can be grown in very thin layers on a large area, it may also be cheaper to produce. Afterall safety needs to be paid!
