Greetings everyone
Hi guys how are you all hope everyone is fine and well. Today I am going to guide you guys how to make google camera work in our Mi Max 2, so let's rock and roll. I have tested this procedure in MIUI9 China developer ROM and MIUI9 miuipro ROM, so global stable and developer roms users this method should work on those ROMs also give it a try.
Requirments
- Unlocked bootloader
- Rooted with magisk
- Patience and common sense

My Guide is split into 4 ways
- Flashing TWRP recovery
- Rooting device
- Enabling camera2api and slow-motion 120FPS
- Installing Google camera, testing it and Camera samples along with video recording samples.
Flashing TWRP recovery
- Download the twrp from the download section below, then rename it as recovery and move the file to minimal and fastboot folder in c local disk
- Make sure you have ADB and fastboot installed on your computer, if not download and install from the download section.
- Put your phone into fastboot mode (Power off, then press POWER + Vol. down until the fastboot screen appears).
- Connect the phone to your computer and open a command prompt from minimal fastboot folder as I show below
5. After opening cmd you will get the below screen
6. Now type this command line - fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and click enter
7. Now you will see the following screen as successful
8. That's it done now reboot the device to recovery mode by pressing Volume+ and power buttons at a time.
Rooting device
1. Download latest magisk zip file from below download section
2. Now reboot your device to twrp recovery mode by pressing Volume+ and power buttons at a time
3. Now go to install and select the zip file to flash
4. After flashing zip file reboot device that's it your device is rooted.
Enabling camera2api and slow-motion 120FPS
1. Download enable camera 2 API - slow motion 120FPS magisk module zip file from download section
2. Now open magisk manager app
3. Click on options from left top
4. Now select modules and click on add module
5. Select the zip file from storage and click to flash
6. That's it reboot device now camera to API and slow motion 120 FPS is enabled
Note: Don't flash this module with magisk at first it won't work because this module need an active magisk in our device so need to flash after successful reboot. That's why i said to flash with magisk manager.
Installing Google camera, testing it (Camera samples along with video recording samples)
1. Download google camera app from download section
2. Install it and open it, now allow all permissions which it requires.
3. Now enjoy Google camera with portrait mode, HDR+ along with slow motion 120FPS in 720p
Here are some samples of HDR+, normal shots, portrait mode, 4K video recording, slow-motion video recording with 120FPS in 720p. HDR+ Shots
Note: I didn't edit anything in the above pictures, I took them naturally and i have waited so much of time to take one perfect shot. |

This is all thanks to XDA Senior Member Arnova8G2 who has modified and optimized the original work of Ukrainian developer B-S-G and XDA Senior Member Charles_l to bring portrait mode to nearly all devices that can already make use of HDR+ in the modified Google Camera app. Special thanks to Scrubber for optimizing google camera for Mi Max 2. Special thanks to mods, smods of Mi Max 2 subforum for giving me this opportunity to write this thread. Thank you and see u soon again. Thanks to all of my teammates and admin @candicesu for continuous support and special thanks to @marcus_keong, @BharatG for guiding and all the motivation.
